but towards the end the path forward for humanity is forked into two ways. for a few years people group in settlements and manage a life of hard work and fighting off the triffids. the few survivors not only have the onus to take care of these blind but also should navigate a world that is festering with 'strange' plants named Triffids which are murderous and have all the time to wait for their prey. Imagine the likelihood of escaping such agents of murder - more potent than any biological weapon or virus - should they ever be released into our sphere.Ī supernatural event turns most of the humans blind. This is the second screen adaptation of John Wyndhams classic novel and is far and away the best. which evolve with experience and can grow in any soil, climate. it has created some very memorable carnivorous 'plants' Triffids which debilitate their prey(humans) by injecting poison and then feeding on their flesh. I cannot think of a higher compliment to pay to this classic science fiction novel. The story initially centres around development of the society and the management of the Triffid threat, before power and treachery increasingly weave their way into the narrative. Written in 1951 by British author John Wyndham the book tells the story of Bill Masen who, after waking up blindfolded in hospital and discovering everyone in the hospital has been blinded after viewing a spectacular meteor shower the night before, stumbles out of his room and into London. which I am sure would be highly inconvenient and not just for me. The Triffids are in complete control of the British mainland but the outpost on the Isle of Wight has survived.

Perhaps I am going to imagine interceptions with imaginary Triffids each time I do. Later adapted for a wildly successful TV series it is arguably his. The Day Of The Triffids was the first novel written under the pseudonym John Wyndham and gave Wyndham his first taste of commercial success. This book is scary enough to make me weary and fear before stepping out of my house next time.
